BAITED RIG vs RESULTS

Have you ever wondered what happens with your BAIT as it enters the water?

What effects it and what happens when it reaches the bottom?

Does your feed create competition with regards to your bait?

How does this effect the feeding of fish?

By understanding the answers to these question, you will improve your fishing results considerably.

FORCE OF IMPACT

The velocity by which your bait/feed hits the water on impact is enormous. This may cause the feed to splinter or break. Also your bait presentation will change. The effect this will have in what is presented on the bottom will have an effect on the success in enticing the fish to take your bait.

Remember that your fishing success relies on your presentation of baits as its resting on the bottom or floor of the water. Correct bait presentation can only be achieved by controlling the texture of your feed and the level of impact as it hits the water surface. A lower degree or angle of impact will create a greater force on the feed and bait. When the angle of impact is closer to 90” degrees, the less force will be on the feed and baits.

By changing your casting technique, you can vary the force of impact on your feed and bait. Also take inconsideration that the texture of the feed ball will assist in absorbing the force of impact.

It is very important to understand that at the moment of impact of the feed, that is coated with flavorings, it starts to create a sent trail for fish to follow and is responsible for attracting fish to your bait. The less force of impact will ensure that you maximize the volume of feed and flavorings that reaches the bottom and the sent trail will compliment a more horizontal feeding zone.

The opposite is also true and then a more vertical feeding zone is created. When fish is feeding closer to the surface, you may want to have a more vertical feeding zone / sent trail and vice versa.

THE WEATHER

The weather will also play a part in the effectiveness of your feed and baits from the moment of impact till it reaches the bottom of the water.

  • Wind and currents will disturb and change the effectiveness of the sent trail.

  • The temperature of the water will affect the rate of release of feed and flavorings. Colder conditions will delay the rate of release and vice versa.

Remember that warmer water columns hold more oxygen which fish prefer. By controlling the FORCE OF IMPACT / FEED and BAIT TEXTURES / SENT TRAILS you can attract fish from this warmer water pockets to your rig.

FEED vs BAIT

The competition creates between your feed and bait when loading your rig is certainly one of the most neglected aspects when fishing. Remember that all the above mentioned information contributes towards the level of effectiveness that your feed or bait has on feeding fish. In addition to this, by placing more emphasis on your feed, the focus of feeding fish will be towards your feed and not the bait.

Now we understand why sometimes we get bytes without a proper take. Also the time or frequency between bytes will vary. Feed will always be the primary carrier for flavorings, but by implementing vertical and horizontal feeding techniques and the aspects as discussed in this article, you will ensure that fish focus more on your bait as they were attracted to it by your feed.

By understanding and implementing the information in this article, you will drastically improve your change to catch MORE fish MORE often.
